Brokenness + Belonging

Hello Reader,

What do you do with your brokenness—your weaknesses, your 'failures,' your shortcomings?

It's a question that invites deep reflection and vulnerability. Perhaps, like me, you've been part of communities where brokenness and weakness were neither understood nor valued.

These are the places Henri Nouwen describes as "a talent show in which we dazzle the world with our combined gifts." In such settings, we often feel compelled to hide our struggles to maintain our sense of belonging.

A Transformative Truth

But here's a transformative truth:

You shouldn't have to hide your brokenness to belong.

In fact, it's often our shared brokenness that creates the deepest bonds of belonging. When we dare to be vulnerable about our struggles, we create space for others to do the same.

Our wounds become bridges rather than barriers, connecting us in ways that our strengths alone never could. True community emerges when we stop performing perfection and start embracing our shared humanity.

This Week’s Invitation:

It's in acknowledging our brokenness that we find real connection, authentic healing, and lasting belonging.

Perhaps this is the paradox of community—that our very weaknesses, when shared with courage and met with compassion, become the foundation of our strongest bonds.

Until Next Sunday…

May you find peace in letting go of judgments and discover the boundless joy and freedom that mercy brings.

With gratitude…and mercy,

Kevin
