Hello Reader,
It’s been a while.
Several months, actually, since I’ve written to you.
That wasn’t something I planned. This year has taken some unexpected turns, and there have been times when I’ve simply felt overwhelmed and haven’t had much I felt compelled to say.
But something has been happening in the quiet.
I’ve been fascinated by moments for years now. Lately, I’ve been paying attention to them differently.
Ordinary moments.
Conversations with strangers. Moments with family and friends. Moments of kindness and connection. Moments of joy and celebration. Moments of sorrow and loss. Moments I almost missed. And occasionally, moments when something seemingly ordinary became something more.
And I’ve found myself wondering:
How much of life happens in moments we simply don’t notice?
Over the last seven months, I’ve driven more than 3,000 Uber and Lyft rides.
That’s more than 3,000 encounters with people who have climbed into my car, shared a few minutes of life with me, and then gone on their way.
Most of those moments passed without fanfare.
I’m sure I’ve missed far more than I’ve noticed.
But lately, I’ve been paying closer attention.
And I’ve begun wondering whether moments might be one of the most under-appreciated forces shaping our lives, our relationships, our leadership, our work, and the people we’re becoming.
I’ve started calling this exploration:
The Moment Project.
Project is intentional.
This isn’t a finished program I’m ready to teach you.
I don’t have seven steps, a polished framework, or all the answers.
I’m exploring something.
And I’d like to invite you to explore it with me.
I’m calling our first little experiment:
Seven Days of Noticing.
For seven days, we’ll begin each morning by becoming a little more intentional about paying attention.
Then we’ll simply go live our lives.
No hunting for profound experiences.
No manufacturing meaningful moments.
No trying to make something happen.
Just noticing.
Along the way, I’ll give you a simple place to record anything that catches your attention. Write as little or as much as you’d like.
At the end of the seven days, we’ll reflect on what we noticed, what surprised us, and what, if anything, changed.
I don’t know what we’ll discover.
That’s precisely why I want to do it.
I’m looking for a first group of curious people willing to pay attention for seven days and honestly share what they notice, including the days when they don’t notice much of anything.
If that sounds interesting to you, I’d love to have you join me.
Simply reply to this email with two words: I’M IN.
I’ll send you everything you need before we begin.
For now, all you need is curiosity, a willingness to notice, and seven ordinary days.
Let’s see what happens,
Kevin
P.S. Maybe you don’t need more to do. Maybe there’s simply more to notice. If you’re curious, reply I’M IN.
