Hello Reader,
Sometimes, in our darkest moments, we're not searching for blazing lights or dramatic breakthroughs. Sometimes we're just desperate to find a trace of hope—the faintest evidence that things can and will get better.
Today, I want to share a powerful story from our Hungry for Hope video series that deeply moved me. It comes from my friend Ron Rouse, who has been with us through all five Cultivating Hope journeys this year.
Late one night during our August session, Ron posted these simple words:
"Seeing the traces of Hope emerge in a challenging situation... such a relief and encouragement."
No background. No commentary. Just that.
Something about that phrase—"traces of hope"—struck me profoundly. Not overwhelming hope. Not perfect clarity. Just traces... like footprints in the sand that prove someone has walked this path before and made it through.
It reminded me of G.K. Chesterton's wisdom: "Hope is the power of being cheerful in circumstances that we know to be desperate."
If you're in a challenging situation right now, if you're feeling desperate and wondering where hope has gone in your life, I want you to know something: the traces of hope are there. Sometimes we just need a community and a practice to help us find them.
Our September Cultivating Hope journey begins Monday, September 8. We're not promising that everything will be easy—but we will help you discover the traces of hope already present in your life.
