Hello Reader,
I thought it was just me.
That sense that leadership (and life) had gotten…heavier.
From the outside, everything still works.
You’re making decisions.
People are moving.
Results are happening.
But something feels off.
Not all at once.
Just enough to notice.
Decisions that used to feel easy
now consume a little more energy.
Your attention doesn’t stay where you put it -- at least now easily.
And the weight you carry
it doesn’t really turn off.
So you do what most of us do. You keep going.
Maybe push a little harder.
Stay a little longer.
Carry a little more so things don’t drop.
It’s not wrong.
It just…keeps costing more.
...................................................
I don’t think most leaders plateau because they lose skill.
If anything, they’ve never been more capable.
But the environment changes.
The complexity increases.
The demands stack.
And at some point, effort alone doesn’t work the way it used to.
Because it still looks like leadership.
It just costs more than it should.
...................................................
I’ve been trying to understand that more clearly.
Not as burnout.
Not as failure.
I think it's something closer to capacity (real capacity).
I put together a short visual to explore that idea.
It's the first in a series of carousel decks.
If you take a minute with it, don’t rush.
Just notice where something feels familiar.
That’s usually where the work actually begins.
With gratitude and hope,
Kevin
Cultivating Leaders...who Cultivate People
P.S. If something in this felt familiar, it's worth paying attenting to. That's usually where a real shift begins.
